Athletistic/Football. UEFA expresses its deep surprise at the attitude of the new management of Juventus and could impose a sanction on the club in the form of an exclusion from European competition for one or even several years. This is reported by the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The UEFA office in Nyon expected Juventus to be more involved in the Super League exit process following the managerial change, but action in Turin has been slow, possibly awaiting a decision of the European Court of Justice. Barcelona president Joan Laporta, also a strong supporter of the new European competition, unlike Juventus management, traveled to Slovenia in April to meet UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin in person and discuss important issues.
At the same time, Juventus have shown no initiative to resolve relations with UEFA, a fact that strikes Čeferin, who could determine the Old Lady’s participation in European club competitions in the future. Representatives of the football union have access to thousands of pages of documents collected by the Turin public prosecutor’s office as part of the investigation, and perhaps as early as June a final decision will be taken. If Juventus are found to have breached Financial Fair Play rules in 2020 and 2021, a club who have already paid a significantly reduced fine (€3.5m from €19m) could be excluded from European club competition for one or more seasons.
