Mourinho: Referee seemed Spanish, I hope he won’t referee in the Europa League next season

Roma’s mentor swore at the English referee after the fight in the under-tribune room

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho criticized the work of the referee in the final Europa League with Seville.

“I said we would go out with the cup or die. We came out dead from physical and moral fatigue and because we consider the result unfair. So many questionable episodes, so many things to revisit. But I told the team that I’m proud of what we’ve done. You can lose your game, but not your dignity.”

“We return home dead because of injustice. But it was a great match, a great final, a tough fight.”

“The referee seemed to be Spanish and gave us a lot of yellow cards. Ignored the episode with Lamela. And then he did not appoint a penalty. This is injustice. If he is so good, let’s hope that next year he will work in the Champions League and not with us in the Europa League.”

After the fight, Mourinho collided with referee Anthony Taylor in the under-tribune room. The Portuguese swore at the referee, and also clashed with other officials.

Roma lost to Sevilla on penalties. Regular and extra time ended in a draw. The hero of the fight was Nervion goalkeeper Yassin Bunu, who saved two penalties from Gianluca Mancini and Roger Ibanez.

Roma were defeated in the Europa League final for the second time in history. Mourinho failed to win the final for the first time in his career as a manager.
