The referee was a member of the Everest conference, whose leader is linked to homophobic scandals
Polish referee Shimon Marciniak may be suspended from work in the final Champions League 2022/23.
Marciniak became a participant in the Everest conference, initiated by businessman and politician Slawomir Metzen. Poleak is the head of the far-right New Hope party, which has been repeatedly accused of racism and homophobia.
The Never Again organization addressed a direct letter to UEFA regarding Marciniak’s participation in this event. In turn, UEFA may punish the referee by depriving him of his work in the Champions League final.
Recall that Marciniak worked in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Pole was named the best referee in 2022.
Marciniak was supposed to referee the Champions League final between City and Inter on June 10 in Istanbul. Pavel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz from Poland were appointed assistants for the match. The fourth judge is Istvan Kovacs from Romania. The VAR team will be composed of Tomasz Kwiatowski, Bartosz Frankowski (both from Poland) and Marco Fritz (Germany).
