the convictions of Operation Maximum Penalty

Operation Maximum Penalty had its first convictions since the beginning of the investigations and had the relief of Eduardo Bauermann

With relief from Eduardo Bauermann and banning of one of the eight players denounced in the Operation Maximum Penalty, Brazil saw the first results of all the controversy regarding match-fixing in Brazilian football. Last Thursday, the 1st, the first players who were investigated and became defendants learned what punishments they received.

In addition to Eduardo Bauermann, Operation Maximum Penalty also announced the conviction of seven more athletes. Among them were the following players: Matheus, without a club, Paulo Miranda, without a club, Igor Cariús, from Sport, Moraes, today at Aparecidense-GO, Gabriel Tota, from Ypiranga-RS, Fernando Neto, from São Bernardo-SP, and Kevin Lomónaco, from Red Bull Bragantino.

Of these eight players, only one was banned from football. Matheus Gomes had to pay a fine of 10,000 reais and even received a sporting ban. The smallest penalty was for Eduardo Bauermann, who was not fined and will only be suspended for 12 games. Even on social networks, the Santos defender appeared emotional and relieved that he did not have an even more severe punishment.

The auditor-rapporteur Adriene Hassen, responsible for the convictions, framed Eduardo Bauermann only in Article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice. Meanwhile, the others investigated in the Maximum Penalty Operation stayed in other articles and had more severe fines and punishments, such as banning the sport. In fact, the article to which the defender from Santos talks about “assume any conduct contrary to discipline or sports ethics not typified by the other rules of this Code“.
