situation of the group in Libertadores

This Wednesday, the 7th, Corinthians has a decisive game in the Libertadores, against Independiente del Valle, which could define Timão’s future in the competition; check out

This Wednesday, the 7th, the Corinthians take the field against Independiente del Vallein a match valid for the group stage of the liberators. After three matches without a win in the competition, Timão needs a positive result to stay alive in search of qualification for the round of 16. Check out the scenarios of group E.

As Argentine Jrs in first place, with eight points, Del Valle in second, with six, these would be classified if the group stage ended today. However, Corinthians and Liverpool, in third and fourth place, respectively, have four points are still alive to seek a place in the round of 16. Timão, for example, cannot lose this Wednesday’s match, the 7th.

In case of defeat, Corinthians would park with four points, while Independiente del Valle would reach nine, and could even assume the leadership of the group. This scenario becomes even more dangerous if Liverpool beat Argentinos Jrs, which could put the club from São Paulo in last place, without qualifying for the South American.

A draw, for example, does not solve Corinthians’ life, but it still leaves hope for the last round. If there is equality on the scoreboard, the difference between Del Valle and the Brazilians will remain the same, two points. Thus, Timão would need to beat Liverpool in the next match and hope that the Ecuadorians are defeated by Argentinos Jrs.

Finally, the only scenario in which Corinthians would depend solely on itself would be in the event of a victory in Ecuador. That way, Alvinegro would take second place, with seven points, and a triumph against Liverpool, regardless of the result of the other match, already guarantees Timão in the round of 16.
