How many events the month of June has prepared for us! Rebrov was finally introduced as the head coach of the Ukrainian national team. The national team will play three official matches at once in a week (12-19, Germany, Macedonia, Malta). On the 21st, the youth team will start at the U-21 European Championship with a match against Croatian peers.
But after all, people are not signs. And at least five important players will have to divide their time and effort between two different teams with different tasks, environments and rivalries. Sport Arena is considering how to distribute labor reserves between our two teams.
Shevchenko and Rotan worked in tandem. Rebrov’s first words call into question the synergy of efforts. It is well known that Rotan’s youth team acted in sync with Shevchenko’s national team, the coaches had a similar philosophy of play, and since the time of the youth team, football players have been prepared for the requirements and tactical schemes that were presented in the first team.
The reverse side of this cooperation is a certain synchronization of personnel policy. It was understood that the national team vigilantly monitors the preparation of the next shift, promptly pulls it up to the first team, and sometimes even holds joint training camps. But at the same time, when the youth team needs it, they also meet halfway. Now, when the youth team made it to Euro 2023 for the first time in many years, it would seem that it is time to thank them for the many talented guys they have put in over the past years.
What did we hear at the very first press conference after Rebrov’s appointment?
“I talked with Rotan about those players who will go to the youth team. First, you need to understand which team is in the prerogative and more important. I think it’s the national team.”
Now a very important clarification. The national team will play the last match on the 19th in Slovakia with Malta. We put Trubin, Zabarny, Sudakov, Mudrik and Vanat in the title – you must admit, if they are healthy, they have a very decent chance to play in this match. From Trnava to Bucharest, where the youth team will play with Croatia, there is a direct flight for an hour and a half flight. But who compensates the players for physical and moral exhaustion after the threesome of the national team?
We move on to the most important thing – although, as if after the matches of the national team two days before the start of Ukraine at the youth Euro 2023, in fact it will not be possible to use all the players of the Rebrov team who could play for the Rotan team. One will be injured, another will be tired, the third will be emotionally exhausted, all taken together will not pass special training camps with the youth team for a specific tournament and specific opponents.
An important conclusion is that difficult decisions are ahead.
And they will not be in favor of the Ukrainian youth team, which for the first time since 2011 will play in a continental tournament with a chance to qualify for the Olympics. Are you sorry? We’re sorry.
