People’s Deputy believes that Russian athletes have no moral right to compete at the 2024 Games
Ukrainian wrestler, 2020 Olympic champion and MP Jean Beleniuk spoke about the expectations regarding the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to Olympics 2024 in Paris.
“Russians have no moral right to be in such competitions. If they are allowed, there will be many conflicts. Everyone understands perfectly well how many athletes died in the war and how many of them lost their relatives and friends. It will be difficult to control everything. If the Ukrainians find out that the Russians have arrived, they will know exactly where they live. There can be many stories. I believe that the IOC should make a reasonable decision.”
“As I understand it, Thomas Bach has a desire to allow athletes under a neutral flag. I don’t know what the selection criteria will be. I hope that justice will prevail in this matter.”
“If the Russians come to Paris, it will not be a celebration of sports. It will be constant provocations and fights. It definitely won’t end well. This country has done a lot of trouble for all Ukrainians, and their athletes were cowardly silent about it.”
Recall, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to boycott the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes.
Earlier, the IOC Executive Board recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.
