Italy defeated in the final
national team Uruguay minimally won Italy in the final match World Cup 2023 (U-20) – 1:0.
The only goal in the match came at the end of the second half. The victory for Uruguay was brought by an accurate strike by striker Luciano Rodriguez in the 86th minute.
On their way to the final, the Uruguayan national team went through Iraq, England and Tunisia in the group stage. In the playoffs, Uruguay beat the Gambia, the United States and Israel.
The bronze medals of the tournament were won by the Israeli team, which in the “consolation final” outplayed their peers from South Korea – 3:1.
The U-20 World Championship was held in Argentina from May 20 to June 11. Initially, the tournament was planned to be held in Indonesia, but FIFA took away this right from the Asian country. The reason was the actions of the governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, who appealed to the country’s leadership to prevent the Israeli team from participating in the world championship.
The world championship in 2021 was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, the Ukrainian national team became the U-20 world champions. The Blue-and-Yellows, led by Alexander Petrakov, beat South Korea (3:1) in the final.
