The United States Soccer Federation (US Soccer) has named Gregg Berhalter the head coach of the national team for the 2026 World Cup, according to to place organizations.
Berhalter has managed the USA team since December 2018 and led the team to the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Berhalter, 49, will take over as national team head coach after being suspended for domestic violence allegations since his college days. After an independent investigation, the specialist received permission to re-engage in American football.
At the time of Berhalter’s suspension, his assistant BJ Callaghan was head coach of the USA team, under which the Americans beat Mexico 3-0 in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals on Thursday and will play the tournament final on Sunday with Canada. BJ Callaghan will continue to lead the team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which runs from June 24 to July 16 in stadiums across North America, after which Berhalter will take over.
The 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
