Team captain Portugal Cristiano Ronaldo commented on reaching the 200-match mark for the national team via social media.
On June 20, the Portuguese national team defeated Iceland in the 2024 European Championship qualifying round 4 match. The group J encounter was held in Reykjavik and ended with a score of 1 -0, the guests’ only goal in the 89th minute was scored by Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 38, in this encounter became the first player in history to play 200 games for his country’s national team.
– 200 matches with the same determination, responsibility and dedication as in my first match. I’m here, I keep scoring, chasing my dream and giving my all for the team, for our country,” Ronaldo wrote.
Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, having made his debut for Portugal in 2003. As part of the national team, he scored 123 goals and provided 43 assists, became European champion and winner of the League of Nations.
