“Russian referees have no bans from FIFA. Levnikov’s work at the Central Asian Cup shows this” – the head of the RFU judges

Head of the Russian Football Union (RFU) refereeing department Pavel Kamantsev told that Russian referees do not have a ban on appointment for international matches, they remained on the lists of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

In the spring of 2022, Russian clubs and the national team were suspended from participating in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA. Sanctions against Russian referees were not announced, but after that the referees did not work at matches in Europe.

– Does UEFA’s tone change in relation to the Russian judges? Or, as clubs and the national team, are they simply on hiatus?

– Our situation is different. As I understand it, clubs and the national team are officially suspended and Russian referees are simply not appointed for matches. They remained in the FIFA lists.

Now Kirill Levnikov has traveled to Tashkent for the Central Asian Cup – at the invitation of the Asian Confederation. The first official international tournament for a long time, where a Russian referee works. This shows that there is no prohibition for judges.

The problem of missing appointments is probably related to the security issue or something else. I don’t know the motives, and I don’t see the point of clarifying them. Our questions are unlikely to affect the appointment of Russian referees, Kamantsev told .

On June 19, the team of Russian referee Kirill Levnikov worked in the final match of the CAFA‑2023 Nations Cup between the national teams of Uzbekistan and Iran (0:1).
