Tsurenko: WTA continues to put pressure on me, opened a case against my coach

Nikita Vlasov previously called for an investigation into the statements of WTA head Steve Simon

Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko said that WTA opened a case against her fitness coach Nikita Vlasova.

“I am shocked. I have already contacted the lawyers to discuss the next steps.”

“At that time, I had a panic attack, which significantly affected my mental and physical health, and led to the fact that I withdrew from the tournament in Indian Wells. After my non-public complaint, not a single WTA official responded in any way. No one, including Lindsey Brandon, Bob Campbell, David Palanzo, contacted me, tried to find out the circumstances and the subject of my application. This indicates that the WTA was simply trying to hush up this incident and the fact of moral abuse by the company’s CEO.

“I was confused and in a certain way frightened by such indifference and ignorance of the situation in which I found myself. I expected that one of the officials would initiate an investigation into this case, because it is unprecedented when the head of a company allows himself to mentally abuse a person suffering from war. Nothing happened, absolutely all WTA officials simply ignored this incident.

“My coach initiated the opening of an investigation into the actions of Steve Simon. He filed a formal request with the WTA to open a case. And today I received a letter in which the association informed me that the case was open against my coach. The only person who came to my defense in this incident with the head of the WTA was simply removed. I feel that in this way the WTA is trying to put pressure on me, continuing what Steve Simon started.”

“I can’t believe that in the civilized world you can still see such dirty games that the head of the company tries in any way to avoid responsibility for their own actions and does not refuse any methods.”

Earlier, Nikita Vlasov said that WTA Chairman Steve Simon regularly blocks any attempts by Ukrainians to convey information about the war on the tennis tour. According to the coach, the official made it clear that he was in favor of allowing Russians and Belarusians to compete in the 2024 Olympics.

At the tournament in Indian Wells, a few minutes before the start of the meeting against the Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko, the Ukrainian refused to play “for personal reasons.” Lesya said that Steve Simon said that if players from Russia and Belarus support the war, then this is only their own opinion. The functionary also expressed confidence that the Russians would be allowed to the Olympics following the example of tennis tournaments, despite the war they unleashed.
