“Sampdoria Grosso: everything will disappear!”, caption Tuttosport.
The marriage of Fabio Grosso and Sampdoria is in danger of falling apart. The Roman coach, freshly promoted to Serie A from Frosinone, seemed to be on pole position on the first bench at Sampdoria until yesterday at the new Radrizzani/Manfredi circuit, but the circuit has cooled off in the last few hours. Grosso and the club’s owners – after first contacts in the past few days – were supposed to meet again these days, but the former 2006 world champion would raise some doubts about accepting the job.

An afterthought that changed, at least for the moment, the horizons of the Lambruschini court club, which seemed to have found the right profile to try to restart after being demoted to B and a bit of a bailout from corporate bankruptcy. Perhaps Grosso’s path is not completely blurred – also because after his farewell to Frosinone, the doors of Parma (confirmed by Pecchia) and Marseille (Marcelino’s confidant) have meanwhile been closed to him – and there may be room for further blows, but there is a strong feeling that now Sampdoria must turn to other coaches. A name that is making a hot comeback is that of Marco Baroni, who won against Lecce in Serie A this season just ended and is currently being heavily courted by Verona in Serie A.
Sampdoria – with Nicola Legrottaglie, the de facto new technical director already working alongside Radrizzani – contacted Luca Puccinelli, Baroni’s agent, to see room for maneuver. The alternatives are kept alive by Andrea Pirlo and Francesco Farioli, other playful coaches and fit to launch youngsters who fit the profile that Radrizzani / Manfredi sees as ideal and, above all, an adviser under the supervision of Fabio Paratici to lead the new Sampdoria. As for the sporting director, the idea of Matteo Tognozzi, Juventus’ scouting manager, is still alive and the possibility of a return of Riccardo Pecini, who will start again with a new scouting project, disappears completely and explains to Tmw: “I have known this property for a while. We talked, but in my head there is another way, I want to do other things. Radrizzani is a man of great intelligence, great enthusiasm. Now he has chosen the most difficult project in Italy. He must readjust. But I think he’s the right person.” In the market, the future of the two goalkeepers Audero and Falcone is holding on: one of the two will be sold. Fiorentina are interested in both, Lazio and Empoli are also interested in Odero. Gabbiadini is not convinced of a move to Paok Thessaloniki: Cagliari’s hypothesis remains valid.
