Lionel Messi scored three goals in former Argentina team-mate Maxi Rodriguez’s farewell game.
The match took place in the stadium of Newell’s Old Boys named after Marcelo Bielsa. Messi played for the Argentina national team, made up of former and current players. Lionel touched the net three times in the first half. After Messi’s third goal, Argentina took the lead against Newell’s Old Boys with the score 4:2.
On June 24, Messi turned 36.
Rodriguez, 42, ended his performance in January 2022. The midfielder graduated from Newell’s Old Boys, like Messi. Rodriguez played in Europe for 10 years from 2002 to 2012, notably for Atlético Madrid and Liverpool, before returning to Argentina.
