Ukraine and Spain in full-time confrontation will play for the first place of group B
Head coach youth team of Ukraine Ruslan Rotan shared his expectations from the match with Spain in the 3rd round European Championship 2023.
“I think that tomorrow’s match will be a little different. The two teams decided to reach the quarterfinals. Let’s do a little rotation. What do we expect? We know each other well. The fact that the Spaniards play structural, aggressive football, in the third zone they control the ball very well – we understand this very well. They have excellent performers. As soon as the draw took place, I said that Spain is the favorite, and this is a very strong team with strong performers, ”said Rotan.
“I think that the match will be physically exhausting for us. The Spaniards will control the ball more, but we are preparing for this. We must not deviate from our game, structure, and we must try to impose our own on them with the help of tougher actions inside the field, ball control. And in general, in this match, perhaps, the character of the team will also be important because of the heat.
“We must all understand that the match with Spain is decisive in order to distribute the places in our group. As for us, and for the Spaniards, this match is important. There is no psychological pressure on us and the Spaniards. But this is a good way to show quality, to be a professional, for each player to find motivation for this match – not because you just need to play it. If there are matches like with Spain every time, it raises the level of the team as a whole and the player. The result does not press tomorrow, you need to go out and show your game. Play not for the result, but for the fan.
“Weaknesses in Spain? There are no perfect teams. There are performers, there are requirements of the head coach of the Spanish national team, which the whole team is striving for. I think that such teams, which have great performers, also have weaknesses. We basically know them well. I want us to use these weaknesses in tomorrow’s match.”
“As for personnel issues, the doctors are working with Mikhail Mudrik. Alexey Sych and Maxim Taloverov have minor injuries after the matches, but I think they will not prevent them from playing in tomorrow’s match.
The national team of Ukraine U-21 takes the second place in group B, behind Spain in additional indicators. Ruslan Rotan’s team will play with the Spaniards on June 27.
