Surkis: Yarmolenko is a high-level player with vast experience, which we lacked last season

According to the president of Dinamo, head coach Mircea Lucescu wanted to transfer the winger back in winter

The president Dynamo Igor Surkis spoke about the return of the winger to the team Andriy Yarmolenko.

“First of all, I want to note that we were guided by the sports component of this transfer. Last season, the team lacked the quality of the game and experience in attack, and Andriy, of course, is a very high-level player with a huge experience of playing in different tournaments.”

“Yarmolenko knows very well how everything works in our club, he will not need time to adapt. We hope that Andrey’s experience and level of play will help Dynamo take a step forward and the team will perform much better than last season.”

“Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu was one of the initiators of Andrei’s return home and wanted this transfer to be carried out last winter. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the signing of the contract with Yarmolenko had to be postponed until the summer. I am sure that with Andrey we would have achieved much more in the second part of last season.”

“But now everything is in our hands, the coaching staff has received one of the best Ukrainian football players who, with their play and experience, can help bring the team to a new qualitative level. Also, let’s not forget that Dynamo has a lot of young talented players who will be able to progress faster when such a master trains and plays next to them. This was also one of the factors in Andrei’s return to Kyiv.”

“On my own behalf, I want to thank Yarmolenko for returning to his native country under such circumstances. This is a strong decision by a strong player in difficult times for us. I thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to hold the championship of Ukraine, I thank everyone who helps our country in this terrible war. I am sure that Ukraine will win at the front, and our football will be able to progress and develop.”

Yarmolenko moved to Dynamo as a free agent, signing a two-year contract. Earlier it was reported that Al Ain would not renew the contract with the winger. Last season, the 33-year-old Ukrainian made 33 appearances for the UAE team, in which the winger scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists.

Recall that Yarmolenko has already played for Dynamo from 2006 to 2017. During this time, the midfielder managed to play 341 matches for the people of Kiev in all tournaments, in which he scored 137 goals.

Dynamo took fourth place in the standings of the Ukrainian championship and will play in the Conference League qualification. The team has already begun preparations for the new UPL season. In July, the blue and white will go to training camp in Austria.
