Former world No. 1 Wozniacki announces career resumption

32-year-old Caroline will return to the court in August at a tournament in Montreal

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki reported on resumption of professional career. The 32-year-old Dane intends to return to the court in August at a tournament in Montreal, and then play at the US Open-2023.

“Three years ago, having achieved almost everything I ever planned, I retired from the professional tour. I wanted to start a family and I needed a break. I had no idea how long this break would last,” Wozniacki wrote in Vogue.

“But one day at the end of last year I had a couple of sessions on the court. And when my dad visited me in Florida, I realized that I needed advice. I hit the ball for 20-30 minutes. One day I looked at him and said, “I feel like I hit better than ever. Am I making this up?”

“I’m going to start in Montreal just to get back on track and then we’ll go to New York. [на US Open]. After that, I will have a few months to prepare for the Australian Open. The Paris Olympics is definitely a goal too.”

“How long can I play at my highest level – a year, two years, three years? I don’t know. But I know that in five years, when the children go to school, it will be too late. I’m not going to make bold predictions – but if I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t do it.”

“Am I nervous? Not good. I return to what I love. Yes, I will be nervous before the match. And I take it well. Can I win the US Open? I think yes. Can I win the Australian Open? I think yes. That’s why I do it. And I think we’ll see what happens.”

Wozniacki retired in January 2020 after losing to Ons Jaber in the third round of the Australian Open. Carolyn gave birth to daughter Olivia in 2021 and son James in 2022.

Wozniacki is the winner of the Australian Open in 2018, twice the finalist of the US Open (2009, 2014). Karolyn has won 30 WTA titles in her career.
