The president Boxing Federation of Ukraine Kirill Shevchenko criticized the level of refereeing at European Games 2023. According to him, some Ukrainian boxers were deprived of victories.
“I just don’t have words for what happened in the battle of team captain Dmitry Zamotaev. It can be assumed that the Turks bribed the judges, because what they did in the battles of Zamotaev and Zakhareev against the representatives of Turkey cannot be put on their heads. Therefore, I will deal with the organizers of the tournament, with the IOC, because it’s just terrible, with such refereeing, you can simply not enter the ring. They were simply deprived of victories,” Shevchenko said.
“Marianna Basanets, together with Tatyana Kob, was also sued, I understand when the fights are equal, but when our girls win outright, and the victory is given to rivals, I can’t understand this. I will do my best to sort this out. Anna Ohrei fought for the Olympic license with a Turkish athlete, again the same situation, our victory is given to another corner.
“Alexander Khizhnyak is a handsome man, he raised the morale of the team by winning an Olympic license. But even in such a fight, two rounds were given to another corner, but Alexander showed everyone how to snatch victories with such refereeing. Therefore, this does not mean that our boxers, who were sued, did not want to win, just looking at such events, you need to demolish opponents so that they cannot influence.
“We are not giving up, we are moving on, we have seen what situations can be at such big and important competitions, so we need to win in such a way that no corrupt judge could pull off such things.”
“Having checked the judges working at the European Games, 13 of them worked at the world championships among men in Uzbekistan and among girls in India. Therefore, we can conclude that the IBA had an influence on the determination of the winners here as well.”
Recall that Alexander Khizhnyak reached the semifinals of the European Games 2023 in the weight category up to 80 kg. The Ukrainian guaranteed himself a medal of the European Games 2023, and also received a license for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
