Promoter says deal with Saudi company undermines boxing business
Promoter Frank Warren announced that the next fight of the WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will significantly change the situation in the world boxing business.
“I think what’s going to happen is a major game changer and you’ll understand why when it’s announced. This is a bold move that Tyson made. This fight will revive boxing and stop all the nonsense that’s going on.”
“Skills Challenge, a Saudi company, did a great job, added some good stuff. The fighters are really ready for what they are planning. But it also undermined the business. We will do these fights later. We can’t let their event hold us back.”
“People are crazy about the guys who had no amateur experience, the guys from YouTube, and they buy it big. All I want is for Tyson to unify the titles.”
It was previously reported that the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Usyk and Fury will not take place in December 2023. The duel wanted to organize the Saudi company Skill Challenge Entertainment.
It was reported that the battle between Usyk and Fury would not take place in December, since the Briton would not have time to prepare for this period. The organizers are considering the option of holding the fight in the first quarter of 2024.
In April, Fury planned to have a unification fight with Usyk, but the Ukrainian pulled out of negotiations due to contract disagreements. The name of Tyson’s new opponent and the date of the Briton’s return to the ring are still unknown.
