La Liga chief vowed to take extra steps to tackle racism

La Liga president Javier Tebas has said the fight against racism in the league will continue.

The problem of racism in the Spanish league has worsened over the past season after several incidents involving Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior.

Previously, several Valencia fans were arrested for racism against the Brazilian footballer from the Madrid club. The incident happened at the Mestalla stadium during the match of the 35th day of the Spanish championship against Valencia (0-1). The encounter was suspended after the 22-year-old Brazilian urged the referee to pay attention to the behavior of the fans. After the game, Vinicius wrote on social media that ‘racism in La Liga is a common thing’.

“We have been fighting racism for a long time. After a difficult season with the story of Vinicius, several other measures will be taken in addition to communication and technical measures,” COPE quoted Tebas as saying.
