Vieira, 47, has signed a three-year contract with the club.
Strasbourg finished 15th in the standings last season with 40 points.
Vieira’s coaching career led Manchester City youth team and also coached New York, Nice and Crystal Palace.
As a player, Vieira played for Arsenal, Juventus, Inter, Manchester City. With the France team, he became world champion (1998).
