The Dutch coach signed a contract until June 30, 2025
Miner on the official website announced the appointment of the Dutchman Patrick van Leeuwen as head coach of the team. The specialist’s contract with the Miners is valid until June 30, 2025.
Van Leeuwen became the 36th coach in Shakhtar’s history. Last season, he led Zorya, with whom he took third place in the Ukrainian championship.
Interestingly, in the past, the Dutchman has already worked at Shakhtar as coordinator and director of the Shakhtar Academy (2006-2013).
Earlier, Shakhtar announced the departure of the team’s head coach Igor Jovicevich. Together with the mentor, he left the club and its coaching staff.
It was reported that Van Leeuwen’s candidacy was nominated by the president of Shakhtar Rinat Akhmetov, the appointment was also supported by the club’s general director Sergei Palkin.
The Donetsk club became the champion of Ukraine in the 2022/23 season. The Pitmen got into the third basket of the draw for the next Champions League group stage.
