Ukrainians will play with the Spaniards in the semi-finals of the youth Euro 2023
Head coach Karpaty Miron Markevich commented out national team of Ukraine U-21 to the semifinals European Championship 2023. Also, an experienced specialist shared his opinion about the confrontation with Spain.
“The guys should be given their due, they generally had a great second half. Yes, there were a lot of illogical things before the break, and most importantly, the Ukrainians squeezed the maximum out of what they created. In fairness, it should be said that fortune was somewhere on our side, ”said Markevich.
“After the break, our guys clearly followed the coaching instructions, were as concentrated as possible at their possessions and, thanks to reliable safety net, did not allow their counterparts to find themselves in convenient positions. It is not surprising that our goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin actually did not have the opportunity to demonstrate his skills. Went to favor and replacements. I believe that the Ukrainians played enough for the third goal scored after a multi-way combination.
“It was felt that Mudrik missed a lot, there was still not enough sharpness and opponents often managed to “cover” him. But he did his job: he “earned” a penalty and gave a productive pass to Georgy Sudakov, who made a fantastic breakthrough from the depth of the field. Still, it seems to me that Ukraine has surpassed the French thanks to team efforts.
“In the first match between Ukraine and Spain, mainly reservists were involved and I am convinced that on July 5 there will be a completely different football. A lot will depend on the mood, although after the victory over the French, who were considered the main contenders for the championship title, now let Spain be afraid of Ukraine.”
In the 1/4 finals of the youth Euro 2023, Ukraine defeated France (3:1). In the semi-finals, Ruslan Rotan’s team will play against peers from Spain. The teams have already met at the group stage of the tournament and tied 2:2. The semi-final match will take place on July 5, starting at 22:00 Kyiv time.
In addition to reaching the semi-finals of the European Championship, the victory over the French team allowed the Ukrainian team to break through to the 2024 Olympic Games.
