With the youth team of Ukraine, the specialist works longer than all his colleagues in the 1/2 finals of the Euro together with their teams
At the European Football Championship among the youth teams, there are three matches left to play – two semi-finals and the decisive match of the tournament. According to the Euro regulations, the match for third place is not held, and an additional game for a ticket to the 2024 Olympics is not required: Ukraine, Spain and Israel will go to Paris next year.
The Ukrainian Football Association has already announced that the current coach of the youth team of the country, Ruslan Rotan, will take the team to the 2024 Olympic Games. At the same time, Euro 2023 is the last tournament for a specialist in the position of the youth team of Ukraine, in the selection for Euro 2025 the team will have a new coaching staff.
Thus, Rotan is left to play a maximum of two matches at the helm of the national team – just a semi-final against Spain and, we hope and believe, the final match of Euro 2023. At the same time, it is necessary to note several important details in the light of the decisive matches of the tournament.
First. Rotan is the youngest coach to lead his team into the top four teams in Euro 2023. The mentor of the Ukrainian youth team is 41 years old. His opponent in the semi-final – the Spaniard Santi Denia – 49 years old. England Under-21s manager Lee Garsley is also 49 years old. Mentor of the Israeli “youth team” Guy Luzon – 47.
Second. Rotan has been leading the youth team of Ukraine longer than all his colleagues in the semi-finals with their teams combined. The specialist took charge of the Blue-Yellows at the end of December 2018 and has been working with the team for four and a half years. Garsley has been in charge of England U-21 for two years, Luzon of the Israeli youth team for a year, Denia of Spain for half a year (there were upheavals in connection with the appointment of De la Fuente as head coach of Furia Roch).
Third. Rotan with the Ukrainian youth team, taking into account the second point, spent the most matches among the coaches of the Euro semi-finalists. The specialist led the youth team in 46 matches. Garsley has 20 caps at the helm of the England Under-21 team. Luzon played 13 fights with the Israeli youth team, Denia – seven with the Spanish.
