Midfielder moves to Manchester United
Midfielder Mason Mount announced his retirement from Chelsea.
“Given all the speculation over the past six months, this news may not come as a surprise to you. However, it doesn’t make it easier for me to tell you that I have made the decision to leave Chelsea.”
I am grateful to all of you for your support over the past 18 years. I know that some of you will not be happy with my decision, but it will be right for my career, ”the player addressed the fans.
Mount’s contract with the Blues expires in the summer of 2024. The midfielder made 35 appearances for Chelsea last season. Mason has not played since April due to a hamstring injury.
It was reported that the midfielder’s next club would be Manchester United. The Red Devils will pay £55m for the 24-year-old. Another 5 million will be written in the contract in the form of bonuses.
Mount was cleared to undergo a medical before moving to a new club. It was reported that the midfielder had already agreed on a personal contract with Manchester United.
Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League standings, Manchester United finished in third place. The Red Devils also won the English League Cup.
