Osasuna loses UEFA appeal and excluded from European competition for the 2023/24 season

The club’s place in the Conference League will be taken by Athletic

Appeal Committee UEFA rejected the request Osasuna and suspended the club from European competition for the next season.

The Pamplona club in the 2013/14 season allegedly reached an agreement with Betis, according to which the club from Sevilla had to defeat Valladolid and lose to Osasuna. In total, the treasury of Betis received 600 thousand euros.

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Discipline Committee also prevented Osasuna from participating in the 2023/24 Conference League. The inspectors informed the club about the results of the report, where they noted the discrepancy between the Pamplonians and the rules of the competition.

Osasuna reported that the report refers to the events of the 2013/14 season, when the club was accused of being involved in match-fixing. The Pamplonians now intend to appeal the UEFA decision to the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport, as the violations were committed by the club’s previous management.

Osasuna, thanks to the victory over Girona of Ukrainian Viktor Tsygankov, in the final round of La Liga 2022/23, took seventh place, which gave the right to play in the Conference League. Osasuna’s place in the Conference League will be taken by Athletic.
