Former head coach “Rostov” Sergei Balakhnin admitted that he could not imagine a situation in which a woman in Russia could become the coach of a professional men’s team.
Previously, Forest Green Rovers appointed Hannah Dingley as their new manager, making her the first woman to lead a professional men’s side in English football.
“At the moment I can’t really imagine that. And in England now anything can be, relating to all sorts of gender things. Although I wouldn’t rule out that an intelligent woman who understands football has come into the team. It also cannot be ruled out that she is a football prodigy,” Balakhnin told Vprognoze.ru.
Dingley first joined the club in 2019 to take charge of an academy and remains the only woman to lead an EFL men’s academy. Dingley, who was born and raised in Wales, also ran a girls’ club academy which will open in 2021.
