Claudio Bravo wants to continue at La Roja: ‘Doing it right opens up possibilities’

The goalkeeper, who is in Chile on vacation, spoke about Eduardo Berizzo’s journey in the national team and his future with the team. “He knows Chilean football and many players,” he says.

In the middle of his vacation in Chile, Claudio Bravo attended a sports clinic for children and adolescents. These are his last days in the country before joining Real Betis’ pre-season for the 2022-23 academic year. “If you continue to do well at the club, the possibilities of continuing to compete in the national team open up,” the goalkeeper said after the training session.

“The competition can be in Europe, playing a new final or playing more games with the Reds. It determines your performance, nothing more” he added, regarding his competitive claims for the season.

The Real Betis footballer wasn’t on the Asian tour, that’s why he hasn’t worked under Eduardo Berizzo yet. Indeed, according to information gathered by El Deportivo, the goalkeeper is not part of the coach’s plans for the qualifying process for the North American World Cup 2026.

A few weeks ago, Juan Pinto Durán said that Bravo’s performance had dropped by 30%, according to GPS measurements. A few days later, the goalkeeper replied saying that: “If I had lost capacity, as they say, they wouldn’t have extended my contract in Europe.”

This Sunday, the one trained in Colo Colo referred to the national coach, whom he has known since the trial of Marcelo Bielsa in Chile. “Eduardo (Berizzo) knows what Chilean football is. He understands how the national team evolves and he knows a lot of players because he got them in the process in South Africa,” he said.

“Some of the boys who were training and are now in the squad, he signed them up at this point,” added a Bravo that at 39, according to the above, he still feels part of everyone’s team.

The Real Betis goalkeeper, who already made the news this week by calling Pedro Gallese ‘naive’ for his performance in the penalty shootout between Peru and Australia, has played 23 games in the shirt green and white last season. He ended up starting, which he is looking to repeat in the next Spanish competition.

On the other hand, with the Red jersey, Claudio Bravo played two matches in 2022, against Argentina and Brazil. This contrasts with 2021, where he was part of 16 appearances for the national team, being his year with the most national team appearances.
