The UAF recalled that the easing of sanctions against Russian sport is painfully perceived in the country.
“We ask you to take into account the reports in the media that Russian referee Sergei Karasev has been invited to participate in the annual meeting of football referees.
This meeting will take place in September in Switzerland and is an official UEFA event for referees who must be included in the lists to work at matches under the organisation’s auspices. The Russian Football Union (RFU) confirmed the fact of this invitation, which became the first since February 24, 2022.
Referee Karasev left the stadium three hours after the end of the game between Spartak and CSKA |
We are convinced that this case is unacceptable in the context of the general policy of UEFA towards the citizens of the Russian Federation, and we believe that the above is the result of a misunderstanding.
However, we take this opportunity to ask you to comment on this matter, as any episode of a possible easing of sanctions against Russia is extremely sensitive for all of us,” the letter reads.
