Growing up in the Karlsruhe youth team where he remained until 2017, he moved to FSV Mainz II with whom he recorded 39 matches, one goal and one assist between the German third division and the Regionalliga Südwest.
After several loan spells in the German leagues, the young centre-back was spotted by Groningen, who bought him outright in 2021. As part of the Dutch team, Schwerko played 28 matches in the Eredivisie.

He joined Venezia on loan in January 2023 and made 5 appearances for the orange-green shirt last season.
At international level, Šverko ended his career with the Croatian under-17 team with 28 caps and scoring one goal from under-17s to under-21s.
