The widow of sports commentator Yuri Rozanov, Zhanetta Ageeva, revealed in an interview with the details of the establishment of her school, in which Yuri Albertovich continued to work, even when he fell seriously ill.
Rozanov commentated matches on Russian sports television from 1996 to 2012 and from 2014 to 2020. He died on March 2, 2021 at the age of 60.
“We didn’t have enough money to set up the school, so we had to take out a loan. Yura has developed a very complex system. No standard questions and answers, but assignments in the form of media files, with extracts from matches. The program saved student audio and video, it was quite a massive and technologically advanced product, and it took funds to develop it. Yurochka’s online lessons were also recorded and someone came to our house to help with the live broadcast. Unfortunately, I can’t remember now all the TV guys, cameramen and editors who were also involved in this, thanks to them. The programmer integrated the final content into the training shell. The program could have been made easier and cheaper, but Yurochka believed that if you teach something, then thoroughly and in detail.
Was the loan large?
– Almost a million rubles. During the year of existence of the project, we earned something and paid our debts. When Yurochka fell ill, he could not always walk, sometimes he could only lie down. However, he continued to study, it was part of his life. Yura was always disgusted with making money, he was much more concerned with creativity. But I managed to convince him that the financial side is an integral part, that we are not getting any younger, that he has always wanted to have students… The online school was an original idea of Yura and Plan B for the period when he couldn’t work anymore as a commentator, so we designed it.
– Knowing the amount of the loan, many will be surprised. There is an opinion that a million for a high-level commentator is the amount of fees for small expenses.
“Fortunately or unfortunately, we were never able to save. At the slightest opportunity to rest or to exchange, they went somewhere. There was never any extra money that could be spent at least on repairs.
In 2012, Rozanov received the TEFI award. Six years later, he won the nomination “The Best Sports Host of 2018” according to the Russian Association of Sports Hosts.
