Least progress – in the French Ligue 1
The total volume of the television market the top five leagues in Europe is almost 10 billion euros. At the same time, 14 years ago this figure was less than four billion euros. I wonder what now more than four billion euros for the sale of their television rights, one English Premier League earns.
These are the data of the LeFigaro study, which compared the cost of TV rights in the leading leagues in Europe.
It is significant that the greatest progress and, as a result, the greatest attractiveness is shown by the Premier League, the cost of which has almost quadrupled in 14 years – in the 2008/2009 season they were estimated at just over a billion.
In second place in terms of progress is the Bundesliga. The cost of the TV rights of the German Championship increased by 3.1 times, from 424 million to 1.3 billion.
True, the Bundesliga is still seriously behind the Spanish La Liga. Revenue from the sale of the right to show the championship of Spain increased by 2.9 times and now stands at almost 1.9 billion against 658 million in the 2008/2009 season.
The smallest progress was shown by the Italian Serie A – 1.2 times (from 950 million to 1.15 billion) and the French League 1 – 1.1 times (from 658 million to 737 million).
Recall that in the last pre-war period, the UPL received $ 16.5 million from the closed Football TV channels for three seasons. Last season, the media partner of the UPL was Setanta Sports. The contract with the Premier League was for 3 years. Five clubs refused to fulfill the terms of the contract – Rukh, Metallist, Dynamo, Zarya and Dnepr-1. Matches of these teams are broadcast on 1+1 Media channels.
However, in April, Setanta Sports announced the termination of the agreement with the UPL. At the same time, the media holding will try to negotiate with the League on broadcasting matches for the next season.
The Premier League is now asking clubs to set up their own broadcast platform. The second option for resolving the issue of broadcasts in the new season is the sale of rights to Ukrainian and/or foreign media holdings.
