After being accused of exploiting his employees, former Argentine player Gabriel Batistuta defended himself on one of his social networks

The former striker of the Argentina national team, Gabriel Batistuta publicly defended itself against the allegations it received from the Argentine Union of Rural Workers and Longshoremen (UATRE), for allegedly having “underpaid” workers in one of its fields and who live in “deplorable conditions”.

There are 35 houses for the use of our rural workers and their families, we build one house a year, invest in schools, roads, electricity and solar panels. Our workers register in accordance with the LCT law and the rural worker statute“, wrote Batistuta on his Twitter account in a first publication, accompanied by several photos of his stay.

And in a second comment, he added that he always respected the rules and agreements with the unions to have everything in order, so he doesn’t understand what he broke: “We respect union agreements, we have an occupational doctor and a postgraduate degree in safety and hygiene of the industry permanently to verify the conditions of the whole establishment”.

“These images are today inside the field. All that and more, isn’t it fulfilling?”, he added.

The secretary of the Argentine Union of Rural Workers and Longshoremen (UATRE), José Voytenco, denounced that during an inspection at one of the fields that former player Gabriel Batistuta has in Reconquista, Santa Fe, he detected an “outrageous” scene with workers “in deplorable conditions”.

Speaking to Radio La Red, the unionist pointed out that “there was an anonymous complaint that warned about non-compliance with a field that belongs to Mr. Gabriel Batistuta, an inspection was carried out and it was possible to verify what was happening.”

“First, we were struck by the impossibility of accessing the fields and, once we did, we were faced with this reality”, he added.

The UATRE referent said that the inspectors were unable to establish contact with the former player, owner of a large property that, according to various newspaper articles, would have a total of 129,000 hectares. “It’s a cattle farm,” said Voytenco about the establishment where the irregularity was detected.

Asked about the scenario they found, he said: “These are situations of workers with disabilities working in the establishment, with unfulfilled salary scales, working hours longer than 8 hours and zero drinking water conditions.

According to Uatre sources, they found rusty tiles and walls with a lot of humidity, something that was specified in a document that they presented to the Labor Area of the Province of Santa Fe.
