World? UEFA and Conmebol announce new tournament between clubs

This Friday, the 7th, the UEFA and the conmebol made an unexpected announcement in the world of football, announcing the creation of a new competition between clubs from the two confederations. Putting the champion of the South Americanwith the winner of Europa LeagueO ‘Club Challenge‘ is the newest tournament patented by the entities. The first edition takes place this month, on the 19th.

The inaugural edition of the tournament features the confrontation between Independent Del Vallefrom Ecuador, against the Seville, from Spain. This competition model resembles the old Club World Cupwhere the champions of the Champions League and the liberators. However, the novelty gives the opportunity to the winners of competitions in the second tier of the confederations.

After defeating the São Paulo in the final of the Sudamericana, Independiente Del Valle secured their spot for the first ‘Club Challenge’. Just like Sevilla, who defeated Pomegranate in the Europa League final. The confrontation will be decided in a single match, in the Ramón Sanchez Pizjuan Stadiumhome of the Spanish club.

With the regulation already disclosed, in case of a tie, the two teams will decide the title in penalty kicks, without the two periods of extra time. The 2023 edition will honor a former Sevilla player, “Antonio Puerta XII”, who died in 2007, due to a cardiac arrest, at the age of 22.

On their social networks, Independiente Del Valle, who are already two-time champions of the South American Championship, shared the announcement of the new tournament and said it was a great pleasure to face a European team like Sevilla. So far, the Spaniards have not yet commented on the novelty.
