Elina’s next opponent is world number one Iga Sventek
Former first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina made it to the quarterfinals Wimbledon 2023.
In the 1/8 finals, Svitolina met with the former first racket of the world Victoria Azarenka. Tennis players spent almost three hours on the court.
In the first set, Elina could not impose a fight on Azarenka, giving her opponent two games on her serve – 2:6. The Ukrainian started the second game unsuccessfully (0:2), but returned to the game and got the victory 6:4.
In the decisive third set, Svitolina led 3-0, but allowed Azarenka to recoup. At the tie-break, Elina bounced back with 4:7 and finished the match 11:9 from the second match point.
This was the sixth face-to-face meeting between Svitolina and Azarenka. Elina beat the Belarusian tennis player for the first time in her career.
In the 1/4 finals of Wimbledon 2023, Svitolina will meet with the first racket of the world, Iga Sventek from Poland.
Elina reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournaments for the tenth time in her career. The best result of a Ukrainian woman at Wimbledon is the semi-final in 2019.
