With the purchase of Kravets, the Dnipro club almost caught up with their summer transfer costs last year, and the Zhytomyr team outperformed Shakhtar and Zorya
Dnipro-1 has signed Vasily Kravets, Polesye has acquired the Congolese midfielder of Montpellier Beni Makuan, and Oleksandriya has sold two recent leaders and is close to transferring another player. The Ukrainian football off-season has just begun, and there is more than enough news. And, admittedly, many of them are unexpected. We assessed how UPL clubs spend the summer financially.
Strange “cutting” of the budget of the Dnieper-1
The main surprise is the activity and readiness of Dnepr-1 against the background of information and assumptions about the reduction of the club’s budget. In any case, so far the Dnipro club is not only the leader in terms of spending in the UPL, but has almost repeated its last year’s summer spending on the acquisition of new players.
According to Transfermarkt, this summer Dnepr-1 spent 1.03 million euros. 800 thousand, according to the portal, the club cost Vasily Kravets, 230 thousand – Denis Miroshnichenko. If the Dnipro team concludes an agreement with Maxim Tretyakov, last summer’s figure of 1.1 million will definitely be beaten.
Polissya activity
Much has been said and written about the ambitions of the Zhytomyr club. Polissya still justifies the received status. At the same time, if we take into account the fact that Shakhtar signed a contract with Kelsey back in the spring, and Zorya, even before the end of the last championship, sort of bought Guerrero’s contract from Maccabi, the Zhytomyr club is still in second place in terms of spending this summer. If we follow the formal logic, then Polissya is in the TOP-4, yielding to the Miners and the Luhansk team.
The Zhitomirians signed the already mentioned Makuan for 250 thousand euros, and paid 150 thousand euros to Metallist for the transfer of Vyacheslav Tankovsky.
Free agent bet
It is impossible not to note the trend that continues from last season. Most UPL clubs prefer to sign either free agents or take players on loan.
So, so far, out of 16 Premier League teams, only seven clubs have bought players for money. In addition to the aforementioned Dnieper-1 and Polissya, this is formally Shakhtar, the same Zorya, who paid Ingults 100 thousand for Golovkin, Workla, who arranged the transfer of Yermolov from Flint, Kolos, who bought the keeper Gorokh, and LNZ, who acquired striker Pryadun from Metalist.
Club | Amount spent |
Dnepr-1 | 1.03 million euros |
Miner | 800 thousand euros (spring) |
Dawn | 600 thousand euros (spring and summer) |
Polissya | 400 thousand euros |
LNZ | 150 thousand euros |
Ear | 100 thousand euros |
Vorskla | 50 thousand euros |
So far, only Vorskla and Alexandria have been launched
If we talk about income from summer transfers, then Vorskla is beyond competition here. 800 thousand, received by the Poltava team from the sale of Kravets – so far the highest figure in the UPL. So far, Alexandria has earned 330 thousand (this amount will increase after the sale of Tretyakov). The rest of the clubs have not yet received money for transfers.
Everything is bad with legionnaires
In total, according to Transfermarkt, UPL clubs spent 3.13 million euros on the purchase of new players.
Among the acquisitions – seven legionnaires. Moreover, two of them – Mustafayev and Guerrero played in Ukraine last season, three more – Kelsey in Shakhtar, Aniagboso and Jarzhdu in Polesie – were signed during the last championship. So only two can be called conditional newcomers from the legionnaires – the Slovene Jon Spur from Chernomorets and the same Congolese Beni Makuan from Polissya.
