Ultras Polissya commented on the club’s transfer policy. Representatives of the fan movement opposed the signing of legionnaires from Africa.
“Jarju from the Gambia, Aniagboso from Nigeria, Makuana from the Congo. The boom of African players in FC Polissya is one of the topics discussed in the Ukrainian media. The most expensive purchase (€600,000 according to Transfermarkt) is Beni Makuana from Montpellier. In the last season of the French championship, he only came on as a substitute in 8 matches, ended up in the shadows and did not show himself in any way. For the national team, Congo played 12 matches, and did not differ in effective actions either. And why is he better than Ukrainians?
However, during the war, children’s sports schools in Ukraine receive minimal support. It is difficult for young football players to break into the first team of Polesye, where such foreign legionnaires play.
The position of the WZTF is unequivocal – African legionnaires are on the “Black List”! And it’s not about racism. We want Polesie to be played, first of all, by players who are close in spirit and mentality. There have never been black players in Zhytomyr, and this is a tradition that distinguishes our club from others.
Breeders should first of all look for new players in the Zhytomyr region, in neighboring regions, that is, historically close in spirit to the “Polesye region”. And only then pay attention to the whole of Ukraine and Europe,” the Polesie ultras said in a statement.
In addition to Makuan, goalkeeper Denis Boyko, defenders Artem Shabanov and Sergei Chobotenko, midfielders Emil Mustafaev and Vyacheslav Tankovsky joined Polesie in the summer. Also, the Zhytomyr club rented Dynamo defender Nikita Kravchenko.
In the 1st round of the new UPL draw, Polesie will play with Veres. The base date is July 29th.
