Elina beat the first racket of the world
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on her victory over the first racket of the world Igoy Sventek in 1/4 finals Wimbledon 2023.
“I can’t even comprehend what’s going on in my head. It’s really incredible. I am very happy that I got this opportunity to play here. [на Уимблдоне] again. Playing such a match in such an incredible atmosphere is a fantastic emotion. I fought against Iga, obviously it was not easy to play, she is number 1 in the world and always fights. However, today there was an incredible match in which I won, ”said Svitolina.
“Undoubtedly, Iga is not only a great champion, but also an incredible person. She was one of the first to truly help the Ukrainians, and this is a tangible help for Ukraine. So it’s really not very easy to play against someone with whom you share a lot of good moments. It was not easy, but I am very proud of the victory. Thanks to everyone who supported me so much, it was incredible.”
“First of all, I’ll have a beer. I will just enjoy with my team. If they told me before the start of the tournament that I would beat the first racket of the world and reach the semi-finals, I would say that these people have lost their minds. I will recover, I need a massage and then I will prepare for the next battle.”
In the 1/2 finals of Wimbledon 2023, Svitolina will meet with Marketa Vondrousova on July 13. The Czech in the quarterfinals beat the fourth racket of the world Jessica Pegula (6:4, 2:6, 6:4).
Svitolina reached the 1/2 finals of Wimbledon for the second time in her career. In total, this is the third semi-final for Elina at the Grand Slam tournaments.
