Athletistic/Football. Juninho Paulista, director of development of the Brazilian Football Confederation, has revealed the reasons why Zenit players Claudinho and Malcolm were not considered for the 2022 World Cup squad. This situation has its roots in September 2021 , when the Russian club refused to release players to the national team.
Paulista shared his opinion: “I didn’t approve of their attitude towards the national team and I informed the players about it. I understand the situation, but I discussed it with them and their coach. Zenit leaders put a lot of pressure on the players, using harsh methods and threatening to terminate the contract. There was a lot of pressure on them, but I was disappointed that they dropped out of the Brazilian national team.” said Paulista, quoted by ESPN.com.br.
The Brazilian national team flew out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals, losing to the Croatian national team.
- Malcolm appreciated the level of Russian football very much
