Olympic champion and former coach Russian team Alexander Borodyuk believes that the main problem in Russian football lies with those who manage it.
Borodyuk played for such teams as Dynamo, Lokomotiv, Schalke. With the USSR national team, he won Olympic gold in Seoul in 1988.
Throughout his coaching career, Borodyuk worked for the Russian national team, Torpedo and Kairat. At the headquarters of Guus Hiddink, he won bronze at Euro 2008.
— What is the main problem of Russian football?
– At the managers. We have good coaches for children and adults, soccer players. But there must be people who watch all football as a whole. They know how to handle it. It was in the USSR that the coach was everything, he solved all the problems. Now he’s a mercenary. The profession has become much easier.
Should managers create licenses? Absolutely. But it is more important that people who genuinely love football come to football. Who, even if they don’t understand it, will recruit a good staff of solid managers. It is important that they do not like themselves in football, but football itself. Then everything will be fine for us,” Borodyuk told .
