Arrested for racism after Corinthians vs Universitario, physical trainer Sebastian Avellino Vargas will undergo a hearing this Wednesday

the uruguayan Sebastian Avellino Vargasfitness coach University-PERwill undergo a custody hearing this Wednesday, 12, at the Barra Funda Criminal Forum, in São Paulo.
The member of the Peruvian team’s coaching staff was arrested last Tuesday night, 11, for alleged racist acts during the match against Corinthiansat Neo Química Arena, for the first leg of the playoffs of the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana.

According to information from “Globo Esporte”, a judge will analyze the conditions of the physical trainer’s detention to define whether he will remain in prison or be released, in addition to deciding whether or not there will be precautionary measures.

Vargas was arrested by two military police shortly after the end of the match in Itaquera, when they identified agitation and irritation among Corinthians fans after imitating a monkey gesture.

Three Corinthians fans were heard as witnesses in the case and reported that the Uruguayan imitated a monkey after picking up Universitario sporting goods at the edge of the pitch. He denied the act to the police and claimed that fans spat on him. In his testimony, Vargas said that he carried cones under his arms.

“I have not seen. I’ve known him and he’s worked with me for 13 years, since 2010, he’s a very respectful guy. According to what he told me, his gestures were misinterpreted. They were spitting and swearing at him, football stuff unfortunately. It seems that fans can do whatever they want. If we react, it’s wrong. And so. But Corinthians and Universitario fans are also wrong if they don’t behave properly to be in the game”said the technician Jorge Fossatiat a press conference.

“That’s the only thing I can guarantee you: it’s respectful as hell. We will see. They said it has cameras. That’s what I say at game time: as long as there’s a camera, the arguments are over. If he made a mistake, unfortunately he will have to pay. I hope it’s nothing. And if you didn’t make a mistake, well, you’ll be with us in a little while”, completed.
