Athletistic/Football. Pavel Stipidi, a former Russian football referee, civil servant and breeder, expressed a negative opinion on granting Russian citizenship to Brazilian football players playing for RPL clubs.
Stipidi said: “As soon as Zenit signs a Brazilian player, they immediately seek to give him Russian citizenship. I think it’s a shame on the part of our country! Why are we offering citizenship to everyone? We’re not a cheap country, we’re not Aussies or residents of the North Pole, are we increasing the birth rate in the country that way, I think Zenit is going a little crazy at this regard.
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that it is difficult for Zenit coach Sergei Semak to work with young players. “Zenith has Russian players who don’t care, who get their salaries and medals and are not eager to go out on the pitch. But there are strong Russian players who want to show off. Zenit has a great academy , they also have a school “Change” in St. Petersburg. There are a lot of worthy guys in youth football. But “Zenith” constantly and ridiculously buys Brazilians.
Stipidi expressed his misunderstanding about the grounds for granting Russian citizenship to Brazilian RPL footballers and the criteria they meet. He also pointed out that in these turbulent times, such actions raise questions.
“Brazilians have dreamed of playing for their national team since childhood, but not all of them succeed. Why are they needed in the Russian national team?” – asked Stipidi in an interview with Euro-Futbol.Ru.
