Rebrov: I will start considering Kilman no earlier than he receives Ukrainian football citizenship

Wolverhampton defender received Ukrainian passport in May 2021

Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Sergei Rebrov spoke about the possible involvement of the Wolverhampton defender in the national team games Max Kilman.

“Yes, Kilman is a candidate [в сборную Украины по футболу]. But we have a lot of worthy candidates for the position of a central defender in our national team,” said Rebrov.

“We have a lot of strong candidates, some of them are already playing well in Europe. None of the coaches will refuse a good player. Let’s talk about Kilman after he gets citizenship. He played for the English national football team. I am not a lawyer and cannot estimate how soon he will have the opportunity to play for the team.

“I will not start considering Kilman until he receives Ukrainian football citizenship. Perhaps the UAF knows how this issue is moving.”

Kilman has Ukrainian roots. He wanted to become a football player of the Ukrainian national team and in May 2021, on the eve of the European Championship, he received a Ukrainian passport. But Max could not play for the country’s main team because of his performances for the England futsal team.

Kilman made 41 appearances for Wolves in all competitions last season without scoring. Napoli are interested in the player’s services.

The Ukrainian national team is second with six points in Group C in qualifying for Euro 2024. In September, Rebrov’s team will play with England and Italy.
