The situation around UPL-TV is becoming more and more confusing and similar to a series. Every two or three days there is not only news about the readiness of certain clubs to take part in the creation of their own project, but potential broadcasters change at a kaleidoscopic speed. Let’s talk about what is known.
Who stands for what
Dnepr-1, Dynamo, Zarya and Veres will definitely not be in a single pool. The first three clubs refer to existing contracts with the 1+1 Media group of companies and will broadcast their home matches on its platform. Veres wants and plans to broadcast matches on his own YouTube channel.
So far, Kryvbas, Obolon and Kolos have not decided on their plans for UPL TV.
They want to create and work on UPL-TV: Shakhtar, Vorskla, Alexandria, Rukh, Metalist 1925, Chernomorets and Minai. According to our information, Polissya, which initially refrained from the proposal to create the League television, then changed its mind in favor of UPL-TV, is now leaning towards XSport’s proposal.
What about the translators
At first, Setnatna Sports wanted to broadcast the championship matches. But after it became known that there would not be a full pool again, this channel refused to participate.
On Sunday, the XSport channel announced its desire to broadcast the matches of the UPL championship of the 2023/2024 season.
On Monday, an unexpected broadcast offer was made by Rukh, who was the most active in promoting the idea of UPL-TV and even presented his own presentation of the project.
What do potential translators offer?
According to our information, the XSport channel proposes to allocate $1 million by the end of 2023 for all project participants to create broadcasts. At the same time, he insists on signing a contract under the 3 + 2 scheme. The plans include the creation of the channel’s own OTT platform, where Ukrainian sports will be collected: football (XSport broadcast matches of the PFL First League Champions Group in the spring), hockey, basketball, volleyball, etc.
Rukh is ready for this season to finance the full production cycle of UPL-TV at its own expense: studios, highlights, broadcasts and other exclusive products.
What the clubs say
According to our information, most of those who initially supported the idea of UPL-TV are inclined to Rukh’s proposal. Moreover, after the announcement of the proposal of the Lviv club, two more clubs expressed their readiness to take part in the financing of an independent project. Many clubs are not satisfied with the fact that the XSport channel is affiliated with one of the Ukrainian giants (the owner of the channel, Boris Kolesnikov, is Shakhtar’s vice-president). Therefore, some of the clubs that could not decide or were against UPL-TV, except for the three “pluses”, changed their position and are ready to join the League project proposed by Rukh.
Everything will be decided in the coming days. The UPL leadership, having received an offer from the XSport TV channel yesterday, wants to hold more substantive and detailed consultations with the clubs. Actually the discussion of the project continues now.
