This Tuesday, the 18th, just under two weeks after suffering a stroke during his vacation, Edwin Van der Sar, left the ICU. The legendary Dutch goalkeeper and current manager of the ajaxwas with his family in Croatia when he suffered the incident, since then he has been hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit on Croatian soil.

After leaving the ICU and going through the most complicated moment of his recovery, Van der Sar made a point of thanking all the affection he received during this period. “First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great messages of support. I am happy to share that I am no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I am still in the hospital.”he said.

On his social networks, the former goalkeeper published a photo next to his wife Annemarie, with a smile on his face and looking healthy. “I look forward to going home next week and taking the next step in my recovery.” said the 52-year-old manager.

Since November 2016, Van der Sar has been CEO of Ajax, a club where he made history as a player. However, in May of this year, the Dutchman resigned from his position, but the club’s Supervisory Board asked him to formally hold the position until August 1, 2023.
