Legendary goalkeeper hopes to return home next week
Legendary goalkeeper for Manchester United, Ajax and the Netherlands Edwin van der Sar left the intensive care unit after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
“First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the wonderful and supportive messages. I am happy to announce that I am no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I am still in the hospital. I hope to be back home next week and take the next step in my recovery!” the former goalkeeper wrote on social media.
A 52-year-old Dutch man was admitted to the intensive care unit of a Split hospital last week. In Croatia, the former goalkeeper was on vacation.
In early June, van der Sar stepped down as CEO of Ajax. He has been a member of the leadership of the Dutch Grand since 2012. Edwin started at the club as a marketing director. In 2016, the former goalkeeper became the CEO of Amsterdam.
During his career, van der Sar played for Ajax, Juventus, Fulham, Manchester United and amateur Noordwijk. Edwin has won the Champions League twice, in 1995 with Ajax and in 2008 with the Red Devils.
First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages.
