Former Manchester City defender acquitted of rape case
Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy signed a two-year contract with Lorient. The player will play in the new team at number 5.
Earlier, the Chester Crown Court found Mandy not guilty of rape and attempted rape. The defense lawyer was accused of raping a 24-year-old girl in the bedroom of his Cheshire home in October 2020 and of attempting to rape a 29-year-old girl two years earlier.
In January 2023, Mendy was found not guilty on seven counts of rape and sexual assault, which allegedly took place from October 2018 to August 2021.
Since autumn 2021, Mendy has not played football. After his arrest, he was first in prison, then under house arrest. His contract with Manchester City expired on 1 July.
Lorient finished tenth in Ligue 1. Mendy will start the new season against PSG on 13 August.
