The International Gymnastics Federation allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in a neutral status

Representatives of aggressor countries will be able to participate in FIG competitions from January 1, 2024

Executive committee International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under the auspices of the organization in a neutral status.

The FIG statement notes that a gymnast who wishes to obtain the status “individual neutral athlete”, must apply to the organization in accordance with the rules. Conditions for the eligibility of athletes will be published later.

Those representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus who receive the status of “individual neutral athlete” will have the right to participate in FIG competitions with January 1, 2024. Thus, they will miss the World Championships scheduled for 2023.

Recall that the IOC Executive Committee recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.

IOC President Thomas Bach said that a decision on the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris should hardly be expected before the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee, which will be held on October 15-17 in Mumbai.
