“Baltika” defender Malyarov spoke about the visit to “Genoa”

Defender “Baltic” Kirill Malyarov told Sport24 how he went to see Italian Genoa but didn’t stay there due to the club’s difficult situation.

– Oreshchuk spoke about the possibility of going there during the break for the national teams. I was ready to go anywhere. At first they looked at me in the double composition. There was Pietro Pellegri – Miranchuk, 15, who played with him last season in Turin. In Genoa, he was the coolest at that time, and looking at me, he probably thought: what kind of guy trains here? He didn’t love me, in short.

– How was it ?

– When he found himself square with me, he tried to play hard. And when I scored in a friendly match, I started to show something. You should ask Miranchuk why I didn’t please Pellegri (laughs).

At Genoa training, I remember a crazy exercise: four against four for the whole pitch. First some attack, then others – and so on for five minutes. Very difficult. So, for two or three days I trained with a double, then spent half an hour in a double-sided with the base under the guidance of Ivan Yurych.

He took off very well, playing on the flank with Laxalt, I also remember Giovanni Simeone. It seems that I liked Genoa.

“Then why didn’t you stop?”

– The situation in Genoa was difficult. Even Yurich was fired and returned a few months later. In general, it did not depend on me. And we Russians are considered legionnaires in Serie A – probably, in Genoa they preferred to take an African player.

Malyarov has been playing for Baltika since 2022. Last season, the 26-year-old played 33 games, scored 2 goals and provided 7 assists.
