Icon of the Brazilian National Team, Marta must do her “last dance” in World Cups this year; Canarinho debuts in the World Cup against Panama, on Monday, 24

Marta will say goodbye to world Cups. The “Queen of Football” declared that she will stop defending Canarinho after the 2023 World Cup, which is being held in Australia and New Zealand. In this way, the current edition represents the “last dance” of the ace and, consequently, the final chance to lift the cup in her career.

“Sometimes, before going to sleep, with one eye closed, we think: ‘What if we reach the decision…’. Would be wonderful! The perfect World Cup for Brazil would be to win. Reach the final and, this time, win. It is very difficult to think of another scenario. For me personally, as a player and an athlete, it’s now or never.”he declared on FIFA’s official website.

The veteran also revealed the fear she suffered throughout her physical recovery: “It was quite difficult. I heard people’s comments, that I’m not a 20-year-old girl anymore: ‘Is he going to play again? Will it come back well?’. Of course, it was one of the toughest challenges, because I’ve never been able to do what I love for so long”.

“Marta is 100% when it comes to the physical part. But how many minutes of training and games do you want her to have before going to the field? It will depend on the game. But the training we had yesterday was really good. She trained and did really well. Then she will be ready”said the Swedish coach.
